Install a Gate Automation System


Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria:


SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1

Prepare a site for gate automation.


ASSESSMENT CRITERIA


ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

Gate plans are explained to illustrate and identify components needed for an automated gate.


ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

Gate construction methods are described in terms of strength, design and suitability for automation.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE

Construction methods may include but are not limited to Arc welding, TIG Welding, Oxy- Acetylene welding, wooden structure, polymers, Gate specifications, Gate design including gate hardware, Other components such as end stops, guide mechanisms, catch brackets, Gate fixtures specific for automation.


ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

Preparation methods for gate automation are demonstrated according to operational requirements.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE

Preparation methods for automation may include but are not limited to install the following: Rack and pinion, Chain Drives, Magnetic tracks, Friction tracks/pulleys, Rotary lever mechanisms, Linear arms.

 

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4

Foundations for automated gates and operators are laid to suit the application.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE

Foundations may include but are not limited to: foundation specifications, Measuring and digging of foundations, Preparing soil for foundations, Preparing concrete for foundations, Casting and curing of concrete foundations.

Install gate automation.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

Gate is installed in an application.


ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE

Gate installation may include but is not limited to fasteners, techniques for using fasteners, gate surface preparation and painting techniques, balancing and securing gates in its position, wedges and clamps.


ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

Gate automation is installed in an application.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE

Gate automation may include but is not limited to:

•  Installing driving devices to gate, Racks, Chains, Operator Installation, Wiring, Limit settings, Set features, disconnecting operators for maintenance, Service of gate operators.

 

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3

Mechanical safety/security devices for automated gates are installed in an application.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE

Mechanical safety/security devices may include but are not limited to:

•  Anti lift devices and passive sensitive edges.


ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4

Gate automation is configured to meet operational requirements.


SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3

Test Gate Automation.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

Methods of testing a gate are demonstrated to ensure that it meets operational requirements.


ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

Methods of fault finding automated gates are described with examples.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE

Fault finding may include but is not limited to:

•  Construction faults, design faults, Power supply, connections and electronics.
